SASKATOON For
the most - it was a trip of need !!
We arrived on Thurs. Nov. 28. Once we found our hotel the 'Quality Hotel Downtown' we got ahold of
Mike, Derek's boss. Mike and Alona (co-worker of Derek's) and Mandy all came to the Hotel to meet us. Mike took
us out to a Greek Restaurant for dinner that evening.
FRIDAY NOV 29 we were picked up by Sgt. Yonkman (Investigating Officer) He drove
us around Saskatoon and showed us the places Derek had been to. It was a cold but BEAUTIFUL SUNNY DAY.
We then went out to Meewasin Park (2700 blk Spadina Drive) this is where Derek was pulled from the river. We placed a dozen roses in the river and had our time there.
Next we drove to the other side of the river to see where Derek was living at the time. It is a fair
walk from where he was last seen - a good 40/45 min walk.
Sgt. Yonkman then took us to the Police station to see ALL the reports which are now in. Other
than the fact Derek had consumed some beer -NOTHING else showed up in the reports. The interview with his friend from that
night confirmed - DEREK WAS HAPPY !!! LIFE was good for him !!! He was moving forward. He was now an Assistant Manager and
had his own team - which he was planning a road trip for.
According to Derek's work Manual he had set his goals - to have his 1st outside deal by
his B-Day and then to move to Kelowna. The name of his team (they all pick a name) was VIPER ADVERTISING. (after the red Viper
car that he loved!)
